DIRTSHAKES "The Kicks are alright !" 10"

GONE LOSER (OZ) OCT 2002 Saw these guys in Germany and they can not
only cut it live, they can blow
the fuckin' thing apart! A great garage rock band featuring the old members
of the Jet Bumpers. Very D4-ish (damn they get mentioned a lot this issue),
and very fuckin' good. Eight short songs and a bonus poster. Want more? The
vinyl is on nice chunky wax! Alien Snatch only puts out the highest quality
rock n roll and here's another release they can be proud of. (damo)
UP YOURS! (BELGIUM) MAY 2002 Another fine example of a partyshacker is THE DIRTSHAKES 10" "The Kicks Are Alright!". This new line-up featuring some of the very finest musicians from The Solingen-scene dwells around in a vivid mixture of all-out rawkin' powerpop and sparkling melodic punky riffs. The DIRTSHAKES mixes the best of The JET BUMPERS with some standard harmonies and melodies as created by bands like The BUZZCOCKS, The UNDERTONES, The DEVIL DOGS, The LYRES, the FUN THINGS and The EASTERN DARK. I allready got this wet feeling while going over and over this record, The DIRTSHAKES are a band created for no other thing than PARTY and since I recently saw them live at The Stardust Spring Rumble : I know I was right. Party all the way up and down with The DIRTSHAKES in the frontrow shakin' and strollin' over one chord wonders and other r ambling rousers. I love it and it'll take a lot more than a bunch of wanking guitars to proove me otherwise (bo)
HIGH HEELS SLUTS (BELGIUM) SEP 2002 After the break-up of the JET BUMPERS it took quite some time before Jenz Bumper popped up in a new band, but he finally got the Dirtshakes going on, further consisting of current or ex-members of the Backwood Creatures and Cave 4. And it was definately worth the wait! Jenz still knows how to write catchy punktunes as he did with the JB, but the DIRTSHAKES got a good shot of R'n'R injected, like if the UNDERTONES and ANGRY SAMOANS would be playing a buncha R'n'R classics on the equipment of the GROOVIE GHOULIES. Way to go and a real thrilling experience! I've been able to catch up with them three times so far and they really know how to pull the trick onstage as well. Get yer ass to their shows & yer money into their pockets! (wim)

MARCH 2002 These
guys can "rock your party all night long because the know the words to
every song"or so says Jenz Bumper, the snotty voice of this german 4 piece
on "Action Ain´t No Dirty Word". I don´t know about that,
but they sure remind me a helluva lot of something you might find crossed the
ANGRY SAMOANS with some old MAKERS shit. Now I´m talking like old the
Hipnotic EP, not the rockstargod crap. There are some great cuts on this one,
check out "I´m In Love With Your Green" ( a la "I Need
a Rich Girl") and "The 80´s Weren´t That Cool". These
guys have got the fast, catchy garage-rock shtick pinned down at the wrists.
Overall, a most enjoyable listen (Boots)

! Get Down ! You´re gonna loose your mind in Solingen Rock City, baby
! with the DIRTSHAKES! The DIRTSHAKES are made up of members and or / ex-members
of the JET BUMPERS, CAVE 4 and BACKWOOD CREATURES and come off as the german
equivalents of the DICKIES, ANGRY SAMOANS and UNDERTONES except with more garage
grunts and groans that are sure to make you twist, shout, shake, drink and fuck
the night away ! There isn´t a bad song in the bunch, but eben if there
was they go by too fast to even bother picking up the needle. Highlights include
" The 80´s Weren´t That Cool" a hilarious jab at the pop
culture of those times and an attack against all those who have nostalgia crisis
for that era, the rave on rock-n-roll of " Hey Girl", the "Orgasm
Addict" rip-off " Penetration Guaranteed" and the "Action
Ain´t No Dirty Word" with the goofy line " Action is the only
way to save your soul for satan" Oh, those wacky Germans ! - Pete

BLANKGENERATION ZINE (USA) AUG 2001 "Good Golly Miss Molly!" The DIRTSHAKES, out of Germany, are a stunning punk ‘n’ roll group featuring one of my favorite punk rockers from my teens, Jenz Bumper (Lead singer of the now defunct Jet Bumpers)! If you loved the JET BUMPERS, like I did, get this 10"! The DIRTSHAKES are a snazzy, pop punk (pop punk in a good way, I.E. The DICKIES, BUZZCOCKS, etc.) band that’ll rock your balls off! This record might be a tad on the expensive side (seeing how it’s an import on super thick white vinyl and it comes with a large, full-color poster) but if you want good music you gotta spend the big bucks. HEAD IN A MILK BOTTLE #2 (USA) DEC 2001: 8 blistering punk-n-roll tunes at 45rpm by this german band. the music combines elements of the RAMONES, the ZEROS, RADIO BIRDMAN, ANGRY SAMOANS... basically fun, fast, melodic punk rock that never sounds overdone!

Blazing Garage Punk that owes plenty to both RAMONES and the GROOVIE
GHOULIES, the guitars roar, the songs are fast and melodic, the vocals are great,
and the lyrics are typically snotty and punk. This would have fit well on the
RIP OFF Label, even though the quality production would definately been an aberration
for RIP OFF. GREAT STUFF !!(Steve)
FLYING REVOLVERBLATT #22 (GERMANY) AUG 2001:Ein neuer Stern erstrahlt am deutschen Pophimmel - die DIRTSHAKES aus der Rockcity Solingen. Klar, sind hier keine Newcomer am Start, sondern allesamt alte bekannte, eine Art Allstarband fast. Jenz Bumper konnte nach dem Split von den JET BUMPERS wahrlich nicht bis ans Ende seiner Tage zwischen Flippers und Gameboys zu Hause hocken bleiben, und so scharte seinen Bruder Jay Triplechair, Surfmaster Öli ( beide CAVE 4) und den toughen Timo von den BACKWOOD CREATURES um sich, um wieder loszurocken. Dass das ergebnis nicht weir entfernt von den Jet Bumpers liegen würde, war zu erwarten, aber was will man mehr als gut agbehenden Bubblegum-Punk im Stile der DEVIL DOGS oder BASEMENT BRATS. Genau das gibt es hier 8 x, echt schmissige melodische Sonfs, und natürlich hat Jens recht, dass die 80er nicht so cool waren, Ach ja, das beiliegdne Poster ist dafür um so cooler. (huc)
3RD GENERATION NATION #23(GERMANY) June 2002 Jenz löst die JET BUMPERS auf. Halb Solingen stürzt in ein tiefes Tal der Hoffnungslosigkeit. Halwüchsige in abgewetzten Jeans und 50´s Lederjacken laufen tagelang orientierungslos durch die City. Soll dies wirklich das Ende sein? Es verstreichen Wochen, gar Monate. Das alljährlich einberufene Komitee erwägt ernstahft die Absicht die Stadt nun endgültig von der RocknRoll Karte zu streichen. In allerletzter Minute konnte dies verhindert werden. Jenz, nicht untätig, immer am Zahn der Zeit nagend tritt mit einem tollkühnen Konzept auf den Plan und informiert die Solinger rocknroll Gemeinde über sein neustes Baby. Das Ausschuss wird milde gestimmt, die DIRTSHAKES werden nach den viel gelobten JET BUMPERS zur zweiten Bastion des Solinger Underground auserwählt. Und die Stürmen den Gipfel in Nullkommanix. Mit Surfmaster Öli, Jay Triplechair und Tough Timo wird eine 8-Song 10" eingespielt, die ssich ungefähr so anhört , als wenn Mike Saunders von den ANGRY SAMOANS und Ed Kuepper von den SAINTS in einer Band spielen. Dazwischen funken immer mal wieder die RAMONES und RADIO BIRDMAN dazwischen und spielen alles, aber auch wirklich alles an die Wand!!! Eine fetzende Rockn-Roll Scheib, die bis zum Schluss das hohe Level des Openers " December 18th 1984 mit links beibehält (RRS, 5 outta 5 Stars !!)
BANZAI #7 (GERMANY) JUNE 2002: Jetzt ist es raus, die echten Kings of the Boogaloo kommen aus Solingen, Germany. Surfmaster Öli von den CAVE 4 versammelten für diese Side.Project Kollegen von den JET BUMPERS und den BACKWOOD CREATURES um sich, um mal abseits der Surf-Garage Spass zu haben. Diese Scheibe ist dann auch purer RocknRoll schnell, laut, hart und gefährlich. Eben nichts für Sound-fetischisten, eher etwas für Garagen-Jünger. Die famose, schwergewichtige 10" enthält 8 Songs, ist limitiert und jede Scheibe enthält ein Poster mt dem DIRTSHAKES Flipper. Mein Anspieltip "December 18th 1984" Mehr davon. Vibrations (9/10) (fp)

#6 (AUSTRIA) NOV 2001: Wie
schon bei den JET BUMPERS, wenn man sich mit dem Gesang von Jenz Bumper anfreunden
kann, dann ist es ein muss. Viele Leute, die ich kenne haben jedoch was gegen
die fieselige Stimme, ich aber NICHT ! So freue ichg mich über diese acht
Stücke ACTION ROCK-N-ROLL gute Laune Hits aus Punkrockcity Solingen, neben
Ex-Bumper Jenz sind hier auch noch CAVE 4 und BACKWOOD CREATURES Members dabei.
Kommt mit feschen Poster !

MARCH 2001 Aus igend einem verflixtem Grund
wurde es bislang versäumt, diese feine 8-Song 10" der Solinger DIRTSHAKES
auf diesen Seiten zu besprechen, und so hole ich das eben jetzt nach, auch wenn
die Scheibe schon eine ganze Weile raus ist . Bei den DIRTSHAKES handelt es
sich ja bekanntermaßen um die neue Band von Jenz Bumper von den JET BUMPERS
für die er sich seinen Bruder Jörg "Jay"Verstärkung
geholt hat, und auch Timo und Öli gehören enstammen der altbekannten
Solingen-Clique. Wer die Band in der letzten Zeit live gesehen hat, wird wissen,
dass sich seit den Aufnahmen, die ja schon aus Juli 2000 stammen ´ne Menge
getan hat in Sachen Durchschlagkraft und ja hoffentlich bald mal ein Longplayer
ansteht. Bis dahin versüßt man sich die Abende noch mit Neo-Klassikern
wie "The 80´s Weren´t That Cool" und "Action Ain´t
No Dirty Word"- die kicks sind in Ordnung, würde ich sagen (8/10)

PUNK RAWK #5 (France) NOV 2001: Chez nos voisins teutons, le rock-n-roll se porte bien. La relative bonne humeur de ce disque tend á nous le faire penser. Si le DIRTSHAKES ne se prennent pas au sérieux quant au concept de leur groupe ainsi que dans le contenu des textes ("The 80´s Weren´t That cool", "Action Ain´t No Dirty Word") le queatuor adopte une tour autre attitude en ce qui concerne la qualité de sa musique. En digne héritier des RICHIES (et donc les RAMONES) is le plie volontiers aux mélodies réglementaires et aux accords vifs et tronconnés. Le format 25cm ajoute comme un effet de style supplémentaire.

et troussent de redoutables comptines rock-n-roll ("The 80´s Weren´t
That cool, " December 18th 1984") sur lesquelles plane influence
des ANGRY SAMOANS dernière péroide. Cést un 25cm huit titres
(The Kicks are alright!), tous assez courts es tous plutot bons (mention spéciale
"hits dan mon immeuble" pour les deux cités plus haut). Vous
allez en prime pouvoir refaire la tapisserie du garage, yá un poster
en coluers dans le disque, une photo du flipper, "DIRTSHAKES"...
